Quick checks
- Metronome: confirm the BPM, sound, work/rest settings, and device volume.
- Scales: choose a root and scale, then use the pattern and playback controls.
- Tuner: allow microphone access, play one clear string at a time, and check the selected tuning and reference pitch.
- Chord Explorer: use Atlas to find a chord, Shape to change its grip, Path for voice leading, and Morph for one-note changes.
- Ear: listen once without guessing, then connect what you hear to the matching interval or fretboard position.
- Jam: choose a musical setting, confirm the tempo and key, then begin with a short focused session.
- Practice: set the time you have and the skill you want to improve, then follow the session one step at a time.
- Slowdown: try the included track first, set A and B around a difficult phrase, reduce Speed, enable Loop, and use the tempo ladder to work back toward 100%.
- Loop: set or tap your tempo, choose your recording mode and start after the count-in. Follow the iPhone click and beat counter. Upcoming version 2.0 offers popular meters and Record & Select; version 1.0 uses 4/4 and Choose before/afterward.
RiffAlly Loop
Loop records your own playing for practice. Set 40–240 BPM, or tap your rhythm with Tap tempo. Recording always uses the built-in iPhone microphone and speaker. Count-in clicks prepare you; recording clicks may become part of your loop.
Upcoming version 2.0: Fixed bars and Record & Select
Choose a time signature separately from loop length: 4/4, 3/4, 2/4, 6/8, 9/8 or 12/8. BPM follows quarter-note main beats in /4 and dotted-quarter main beats in compound /8; compound meters include quieter triplet subdivisions. One selected-meter bar counts you in before recording.
Fixed bars: choose 1–64 bars before Start. Recording ends at the selected length and playback starts automatically. Common choices include 4, 8 and 12 bars.
Record & Select: start playing after count-in, then tap Stop & select during the bar immediately after your phrase. The initial selection starts at bar 1 and ends at the last complete bar. Tap Use & Play once to accept it and start looping, or adjust the whole-bar start/end range on the waveform. Preview is optional. Bar boundaries follow your chosen tempo and meter, not notes or silence.
Leave or redo: New loop dismisses a fresh, unaccepted take in one tap. Change selection reopens an accepted original; Back to loop abandons edits and keeps the accepted range. Use & Play commits the new range. Pause, then Play from start to restart at the beginning. Playback repeats continuously; Call and Response is not in version 2.0.
The current finalized Record & Select original, accepted selection and any undismissed draft stay on the iPhone across relaunches. New loop from playback starts setup without deleting the accepted original. Clear loop or successful replacement removes the prior retained take. Fixed bars loops are session-only. This is not a saved-loop library; there is no export, overdubbing or background recording.
Version 1.0
Choose 1–64 bars in 4/4 before recording, or use Choose afterward and select complete bars from the start after Stop. Four audible clicks count you in. Continuous Loop repeats immediately; Call and Response adds an equal-length response space. Version 1.0 loops are session-only and do not restore after relaunch.
Audio and troubleshooting
Only completed-loop playback uses a selected compatible Bluetooth media speaker. Check Output and select the desired speaker in Control Center if needed. Without an external output, playback uses the iPhone speaker. Isolated headphone clicks, wired-headphone playback and AirPlay are unsupported. Keep Loop in the foreground. Allow microphone access in Settings if recording is unavailable, and free storage if a recording cannot be saved.
For timing or routing issues, include app version, BPM, time signature, recording mode, bar range and speaker model. Recordings are not sent to RiffAlly automatically. In version 2.0 you can change the pedal finish, display and recording-click sound; the count-in cue remains distinct.
